Getting Started with Counseling
How to Use This Site When You Are Not Sure Where to Start
When something feels off but you are not sure what kind of help fits, start with the situation that sounds closest. You do not need to diagnose yourself before taking a first step.

Start with the situation, not a diagnosis
You do not have to begin with perfect words. Many people start with a general sense that sleep is off, stress is building, home feels tense, work is carrying into family life, or a transition is harder than expected.
The first step is not to label yourself. It is to identify the situation you are trying to understand and choose the closest starting point.
A way to choose a starting point
Use the question that best matches what you need right now.
Do you need support nearby?
Use the Resources page for Texas, county, community, and other outside support.
Go to: Texas and local help
Does one of these situations sound closest?
Situation: Military service, transition, readjustment, or veteran family support
Situation: Fire, EMS, law enforcement, dispatch, corrections, or public safety stress
Situation: Communication strain, family stress, caregiving, distance, or conflict
Situation: Career change, retirement, loss of structure, or another major role change
Learning and outside support serve different needs
Use the Learning Center when you want a Cedar Elm explanation that helps you understand or prepare. Use Resources when you need an outside organization, crisis route, local service, or official support link.

A smaller next step
Choose one path and take one small action. Do not try to solve everything at once.
- open the pathway that sounds closest
- read one published Learning Center guide
- save one verified outside resource
- share one official link with someone you trust
- return later when you have more words for what is going on
You do not have to begin with perfect words. Start with the closest path.
